We all play a role in creating climate impact through our personal lives and our business priorities. That’s why at Yapily, we’re connecting our mission of enabling better and fairer financial services for everyone to our care for the environment and global communities.
Today, we’re delighted to share that we have pledged to become completely carbon neutral through our work with Tech Zero.
What is Tech Zero?
Led by Bulb and industry body Tech Nation, Tech Zero is a network of innovative UK technology companies working together to fight the climate crisis, accelerate progress to net zero, and help consumers make greener choices. As part of a commitment to building a more sustainable future, members will attend events with climate experts, leading companies who are well on their way to achieving net zero, and exciting green tech startups to discuss challenges and opportunities in tackling climate change.
Tech Zero has also produced a toolkit to demystify climate jargon and make it easier for tech companies of all sizes to get started by setting a net zero plan.
How will Yapily get involved?
We have pledged to halve our carbon emissions by 2030 and become completely carbon neutral by 2050 (although we plan to achieve these targets much sooner). This starts with offsetting all of our carbon emissions from 2021 onwards and retroactively from 2017 (this is as far back as we can go).
We are also committing to:
- Appoint a member of our executive team to be responsible and accountable for our net zero target
- Measure our global organisation’s carbon emissions and report them annually to our stakeholders, customers and the public via our website
- Publish more details about how we plan to track our journey towards net zero
- Continue to be a carbon neutral business once net zero status has been achieved
Stefano Vaccino, our Founder and CEO, comments: “I am incredibly passionate about climate change and the global environment. One of the reasons I founded Yapily is to contribute to better, fairer services — whether it’s through banking the unbanked population, providing fairer, affordable products, or measuring carbon emissions. We power many companies who share our vision and, in turn, are leveraging open banking to build innovative products that are contributing to a better society.
With Tech Nation, this is our first step towards carbon commitments and I can’t wait to see our progress as individuals and as a company. I look forward to working with Tech Nation and the wider community on sharing ideas and progress on achieving net zero targets.”
